We have all messed up while dieting.
Sometimes it is intentional (you better not!!), but other times it is simply a “slip of the mind”. I sometimes get so focused on ______, that I completely forget to eat, eat something that I did not realize, or ate paper (guilty). You ask, “How did you do that?” I say, “I plead the fifth”. No matter what you have done it can sabotage the diet, be discouraging, and be plain funny. I have a funny instance for you.
There is a certain client here at IDH that shared her story with me. We will call her Client G. Yes, G is for “girl”. It was pretty funny and you needed to hear for your spirits in this diet.
Client G loves her morning coffee. She’s not addicted; she just has to have it… Sometimes in the crazy weeks she goes for 2 cups of coffee. She is that hardcore. On one particular uneventful morning; she brewed her coffee and sweetened it just a little with her Stevia drops, nothing to crazy. She took her first sip and instant a thousand bolts of electricity went through her. It was that sweet. Client G continued to drink it thinking it was her taste buds changing and on that day it was a little too much Stevia. She drank her 2 cups of coffee and went on with her day, never giving it another thought.
The next day roles around and she is ready for her daily constitution of coffee. She fixes her cup with an appropriate amount of Stevia. Takes that wonderful, first sip, and her eyes fall out of her head. It was sweet again.
About this time Client G’s husband rolls in, gets his cup of coffee. He’s a real man, he likes it black. He takes his sip and goes into a diabetic coma. After he is resuscitated the couple figures this out.
They go through everything about the pot to the coffee itself. Nothing is the culprit of this sweetness. Then the hubs looks at the water jug on the counter that Client G used for the coffee. He asks, “Is this the water jug that was bought to drink or is this the jug you use for your humming bird nectar?” Boom. It hit her. So, yes this happened, but how much sugar do you add to water for humming bird feeders? Recipes vary, but in general it is about a half cup of sugar to about 1 cup of water. After the math she ingested 2 cups of sugar cane in the past 2 days. That is about as much as a 20oz Coke. Now that’s a cheat.
We have all messed up and you just have to keep going.
Stuff happens. They are not all as funny as this account, but at the end of the day you must keep going.
Health is worth it.
